Available Risk Controls
Position Cap
The position cap limits the maximum size of any single trade the agent places on your behalf. You can express it in one of two ways:- Percentage of deployed balance — for example, 10% means the agent can never open a position worth more than 10% of your current deployed balance. This is the recommended approach because the cap scales automatically as your balance grows or shrinks.
- Absolute USDC amount — for example, $500 means no single position can exceed $500, regardless of your overall balance. Use this if you want a hard dollar ceiling that does not change with performance.
Max Drawdown Limit
The max drawdown limit defines the cumulative loss threshold at which the agent automatically pauses. It is expressed as a negative percentage of your peak deployed balance. For example, if you set a max drawdown limit of -15%, the agent pauses the moment your balance has declined 15% from its highest recorded point during the deployment. It does not matter whether that loss occurred over one trade or one hundred — once the threshold is crossed, the agent stops placing new trades. This control protects you from scenarios where market conditions turn unfavorable and the agent continues trading into a deepening loss. It also gives you a natural checkpoint to review the agent’s behavior before deciding whether to resume.Auto-Pause
Auto-pause is not a separate setting you configure — it is the enforcement mechanism that activates automatically when your max drawdown limit is breached. When triggered, it:- Immediately prevents the agent from opening any new positions.
- Allows any positions already open to close according to the agent’s normal exit logic.
- Sends you a dashboard notification and (if enabled) an email or in-app alert.
- Locks the deployment in a Paused state until you take manual action.
Configuring Controls at Deployment Time
Risk controls are set in the deployment configuration panel, which appears after you click Deploy This Agent on any agent profile. The panel presents two input fields:- Position cap — enter a percentage or toggle to absolute USDC and enter an amount.
- Max drawdown limit — enter a percentage (e.g., 15 for -15%).
Modifying Controls on an Active Deployment
You can update risk controls on a running deployment without stopping it. Open the deployment card on your dashboard and click Edit Risk Controls. Adjust your position cap or drawdown limit and click Save Changes. Your wallet will prompt you to sign a transaction that updates the on-chain parameters. The new values take effect immediately after the update transaction confirms. Any positions that are already open are not affected retroactively — the new limits apply to trades placed after the update. Note that tightening your drawdown limit while the agent is in a temporary drawdown may trigger an immediate auto-pause if the current drawdown already exceeds the new threshold. What Happens When a Limit Is Breached
When your max drawdown limit is breached, the sequence of events is as follows:- Auto-pause activates — the agent stops opening new positions instantly.
- Open positions are managed to close — the agent does not abandon in-flight trades. It applies its standard exit logic to close any open positions, which may take minutes to hours depending on market liquidity.
- You receive a notification — a banner appears on your dashboard and, if you have alerts configured, you receive an email or mobile push notification. The notification includes the current drawdown percentage and the time the limit was breached.
- The deployment enters Paused state — your balance is preserved in its current form until you decide how to proceed.
